Béla Földi

Founder Director of Budapest Dance Theatre (1991)
Nationality: Hungarian
Place, date of birth: Budapest, 14.07.1958.
Biography

He started his classical ballet and jazz dance training in Budapest. Later he continued his training around Europe. His outstanding teachers consisted of: Jeszenszky Endre 1975-1985, Raza Hammadi – Paris 1985-1990.

As a student and dancer he worked together with: Raza Hammadi, Séan Curran, Glenn van der Hof, Neel Verdoorn, Marie-Laure Tarneaud, Amir Kolbenomy, Josepf Tmim, Vassili Sulich, Krisztina De Chatel reknown dancers and teachers.

Utilising his studies in modern dance; he mixes elements of ballet, jazz and limon technique to create his own distinctive style. In his unique method of training he focuses on the various energies and laws of physics effecting the body. He appreciates the practical anatomy of dancers together with their multi dimensional facilities, thus maximising their full potential. His methods therefore achieve very effective and outstanding results in dance education.

Over the years under his watchful eyes, countless amounts of his students became very successful in the industry, even receiving professional awards such as; Dóra Barta, Zoltán Fodor, Oktávia Szigeti – worthy artists, i.e. Harangozó Gyula - prize winners. More of his students teach at the Hungarian National Dance University, such as; Grácia Nagy, János Lakatos, Zoltán Fodor, Noémi Juhász-Hörcher and Dzsenifer Vattai .

Currently Béla Fölid is a senior lecturer at the Hungarian National Dance University. For several years, he has been the modern-contemporary dance course instructor; which is the professional course of the National Union of Dance Teachers and is accredited by the government.

With his work as an art educator, he provides valuable contribution that high quality art should become appreciated in public education and for those receiving basic cultural training.

It's essential to emphasize that besides his profession as a dance teacher and educator, he also achieves great success with his creations and high quality work of his dancers both at home and abroad, as the founding director of Budapest Dance Theatre, which he established over 25 years ago. It is extremely important to him that his company's repertoire should appeal to all age groups, therefore Budapest Dance Theatre's repertoire includes children's and youth pieces besides the adult ones. These achievements are honoured by many professional awards, like the Dance Festival Audience Award, as well as Béla Földi's personal accolades, including the Republic of Hungary's Silver Cross of Merit, the Harangozó Gyula Award, the Jeszenszky Endre Award, the Creator of the Year Award, the Bonis Bona Award.
